Abstract

The Michaelis consts. for acetylcholinesterase (E.C. 3.1.1.7, AchE) [9000-​81-​1] were detd. in the cerebrum, cerebellum, optic lobes, and medulla oblongata of normal and thiamine [59-​43-​8]​-​deficient chickens. In general the cerebellar AchE had lower Km and lower Vm in thiamine deficiency. AchE in the optic lobes had higher Km and higher Vm (over controls) in the thiamine deficient birds. However, brain stem exhibited lower Km and lower Vm during thiamine deficiency.
