Abstract

The growth of Ag amalgam crystals has been studied both in the presence and absence of Cu. Needle-​like single crystals of Ag amalgam have been found to grow from the surface of a Hg drop in contact with the AgNO3 soln. In the presence of Cu, the crystals grew from the Cu surface. In either case, the surface nucleation is a function of the AgNO3 concn. Below a certain crit. concn. of AgNO3, only amalgam forms while above that concn. crystals grow.
