Abstract

After fat and oligosaccharide removal, powd. green coffee was extd. with 2N HCl. Polysaccharide (I) was pptd. with 95% EtOH; yield: 0.9% from Coffea arabica, 1.5% from C. robusta. Acid hydrolysis of I and quant. sepn. yielded 10% rhamnose, 30% arabinose, 29% mannose, and 19% galactose. The order of liberation during acid hydrolysis was arabinose and traces of galactose in 15 min., rhamnose and traces of mannose in 45 min.; oligosaccharides appeared within 30 min. and increased with time. Acid-sol. I differs from water-sol. I in rhamnose and mannose content and resembles NH4 oxalate-extd. I.
