Abstract

Analyses of granolites and granoblastites occurring in Sivasamudram, Satnur-Halagur and Kanakapura regions of Southern Karnataka are plotted on the Kohler-Raaz (Qz-Fm) diagram. The plots of charnockitic granolites with and without hornblende (acid charnockites) and charnoenderbitic granolites with and without hornblende (intermediate charnockites) indicate decisive sedimentary nature. The hypersthene pyroclase granolite with and without hornblende (basic charnockites) and hornblende contg. hypersthene granolite (ultrabasic charnockite) have plot within the orthofield, indicating that they have an igneous parentage. The plot of granoblastites are well within the parafield, which is suggestive of their sedimentary parentage. The possibilities of the charnockitic granolites being the representatives of the primordial crust or otherwise are discussed.
