Abstract

The Closepet granite is the latest known Archaean magmatic event in the Dharwar craton (South India). It consists of a composite massif showing interactions between a mantle-derived magma and the surrounding continental crust. Modeling based on trace element behaviour indicates that its geochemical characteristics are mainly accounted for by mixing between a mafic magma, and products of the partial melting of the surrounding continental crust. To a small extent fractional crystallization took place prior to the mixing. The recalculated parental magma's chemical composition is very similar to that of typical late-Archaean rocks known as 'sanukitoïds'.
