Abstract

Presowing hardening of ragi (Eleusine coracana) and tomato (Lycopersicum esculentum) seeds with 1 ppm caffeic acid [331-​39-​5]​, 10 ppm ferulic acid [1135-​24-​6]​, 1 ppm vanillic acid [121-​34-​6] or distd. water hastened germination and enhanced dry matter prodn. by the seedlings. Hardening partially suppressed the inhibitory effect of high concn. (100 ppm) of the above phenolic acids, added to the growth media, on dry matter prodn.
