Abstract

The pattern and rate of NH3 excretion in M. lanchesteri are described in relation to 3 types of food (algae, oligochaete worms, and boiled fish muscle). The rate of NH3 excretion is not related to the feeding rate. A low assimilated, protein-rich diet brings about increased NH3 excretion. The need for a suitable, formulated diet to limit enhanced NH3 excretion by the prawns is projected.
