Abstract

Molybdenite occurrences in Karantaka are very few and are assocd. with small plutons of intrusive character. The Yegawakote molybdenite mineralization is assocd. with granitic differentiates of calc-​alk. magma series. The most useful geochem. indicators in identifying the molybdenite assocd. granites are, the presence of high concns. of K, Mo, Rb, Sr, Sn, Be, Nb, Y and F while the barren granites have very low contents of these elements. The presence of these elements create conditions ideal for molybdenum concn. by means of formation of hydrous K-​rich silicate melt.
