Abstract

A total of 23 strains of Aedes aegypti from Bangalore and Mandya districts of Karnataka State were collected to test the baseline susceptibility studies for three insecticides i.e., malathion, carbofuran and alphamethrin according to the standard procedure of World Health Organization. The values of LC 50and LC90, resistance ratio, regression equation, coefficient of correlation and Ï2 were calculated. The LC 50 value ranged between 0.2455 mg/l to 0.5579 mg/l for malathion, 0.2626 mg/l to 0.4995 mg/l for carbofuran, and, 0.3432 Ã 10-4 mg/l. to 3.9637 Ã 10-4 mg/l for alphamethrin. The resistance ratio of LC50 ranged between 1 to 2.27, 1 to 1.90 and 1 to 11.55 for malathion, carbofuran and alphamethrin respectively. The data generated in the present study, shall be used as a reference in the future control programme of Ae. aegypti from both Bangalore and Mandya Districts of Karnataka (India).
