Abstract

Providing high reliability, optimal delay scheduling with network lifetime maximization is crucial for real-time applications in WSNs. Existing Virtual Backbone Scheduling (VBS) algorithms find backbone set that works in an overlapped fashion and extend the lifetime of network. However, the formation of backbone set and scheduling of these virtual backbones do not meet the demands of real-time applications. Moreover, Virtual Backbone Scheduling (VBS) is not fault-tolerant and does not ensure optimal delay. In this paper, we propose two algorithms: Backbone Set Construction (BSC) algorithm to find the backbones set for a given network and Backbone Scheduling Algorithm (BSA) to schedule these backbone nodes to meet the realtime QoS requirements of an application.
